AMERICAN PICKERS To Film In Georgia, Seeking Entries From Rome

Posted November 8, 2016 by Kristi Kent in Film, Heritage/History, News

AAMERICAN PICKERS is a documentary series that explores the fascinating world of antique “picking” on the History Channel and is seeking submissions from residents in Rome, Georgia. Mike Wolfe, Frank Fritz, and their team plan to film episodes of the hit series throughout the region this winter.

The hit show follows Mike and Frank, two of the most skilled pickers in the business, as they hunt for America’s most valuable antiques.  They are always excited to find sizeable, unique collections and learn the interesting stories behind them.

As they hit the back roads from coast to coast, Mike and Frank are on a mission to recycle and rescue forgotten relics.  Along the way, the Pickers want to meet characters with remarkable and exceptional items.  The pair hopes to give historically significant objects a new lease on life, while learning a thing or two about America’s past along the way.

Mike and Frank have seen a lot of rusty gold over the years and are always looking to discover something they’ve never seen before.  They are ready to find extraordinary items and hear fascinating tales about them.  AMERICAN PICKERS is looking for leads and would love to explore your hidden treasure.

“Several years ago, it was exciting to see the Antique Archaeology van driving through town,” said Ann Hortman of the Greater Rome CVB, a liaison for the Camera Ready film office. “This time we need to make sure they stop in Rome and Floyd County!” Ann added that there are great collections in the area that Mike and Frank would love to pick, but they must be private collections. Mike and Frank will not pick through stores, malls, flea markets, museums, auctions, businesses or anything open to the public. Additionally, you have to be willing to sell.

If you or someone you know has a large, private collection or accumulation of antiques that the Pickers can spend the better part of the day looking through, you could be featured on AMERICAN PICKERS.

My best friend’s father was an American Diplomat back in the 1920’s. From there my friend started collecting everything from around the world. My friend died last year and left me all of his belongings and I have moved them to my warehouse on 2170 Kingston Highway in Rome, Georgia. (not a public warehouse – just a 21,000 sq ft building I work out of). The collection has everything from Rome Georgia clocktower historic memorabilia to Nazi Daggers. I have a Lucky Strike box valued at $500 – Old metal signs over the years that are in mint condition. I have over 30 war bond posters framed and documented. He wrote on the back of most items what he saw them sell for on Ebay. He also has a vast coin collection and stamp collection that goes back 3 generations . I don’t think any of the coins or stamps are actually worth anything but I still have them. Pottery includes Weller, Roseville, Blue Ridge Cash Family, Cloissoine Vases and Lamps. Old statue of liberty lights etc. very old clocks- Multiple Complete Dish Collections. I also have all of his furniture which was old collectors furniture. His home was right downtown in the Historic District. The corner of 3rd and 3rd. Many antiques places in the area have asked me for these items but I haven’t given them anything. There are literally thousands of items! I would be happy to send you pictures of the items if it helps. It’s so much I have no idea what to do with it.
    Sincerely,
