FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: City of Rome and Floyd County Administrative Offices Closed February 26 Due to Winter Weather
ROME, GA. — The City of Rome, Floyd County and The Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation Authority announces administrative offices are closed tomorrow, Thursday, February 26, 2015 due to inclement winter weather. All essential and emergency personnel should report to work at their scheduled time on Thursday.
Due to the amount of snow received and extended time of below freezing temperatures, road conditions are expected to be very poor throughout the evening into Thursday. City, county and DOT crews are working diligently on main thoroughfares in the community. They are continuing to work through the night in efforts to stay ahead of the snow and ice to keep roads passable for emergency traffic.
Floyd County Emergency Management is in contact with local organizations if need arises for emergency shelters. Georgia Power is holding crews in the area to resolve any issues quickly.
Rome Transit Department buses will have a delayed start and most likely run an alternative schedule.
City and county solid waste will endeavor to pick up on Thursday and Friday routes as conditions allow.
Rome City Commission has cancelled their Thursday planning retreat and will reschedule for a later date
The public is encouraged to stay off the roads, if possible until conditions improve.
