FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Winston Churchill Exhibition Events Planned
ROME, GA. — In celebration of the upcoming “The Art of Diplomacy” exhibition honoring Sir Winston Churchill’s family connections to Georgia, several community events are planned.
Monday, February 16, 2015 – 6:30 p.m. -7:30 p.m.
Gallery Talk for The Art of Diplomacy: Winston Churchill and the Pursuit of Painting
Guest Lecturer Dr. Jonathan Atkins, Professor of History, Berry College will speak on the life and accomplishments of Sir Winston Churchill followed by a guided tour of the exhibition. The lecture will be held at The Martha Berry Museum Auditorium.The event is free and open to the public.
Thursday, February 26, 2015 – 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Wine & Cheese with Rodney Mims Cook,Jr.
Guests are encouraged to read “Painting as a Pastime” by Sir Winston Churchill.
Cook is the founder and president of the National Monuments Foundation, an organization that choreographed the design and construction of the Millennium Gate Museum in Atlanta. The event will be held at the Claremont House located at 906 East Second Avenue.Tickets are $15 per person. Reservations are recommended. “The Churchill Smoker” with Dr. Eric Sands
Eric Sands, Associate Professor of Government at Berry College will speak on Churchill the statesman and how he used wit and humor to his advantage. The event will be held upstairs at Old Havana Cigar located at 327 Broad Street. Tickets are $25 per person and includes cigar. Send RSVP to layton_roberts@yahoo.com.

Churchill Gala
A special black-tie optional gala that includes cocktail museum tours of the Churchill exhibition, and baronial dinner with Former Lord Mayor of Westminster and Winston Churchill’s Great Grandson Duncan Sandys is planned to benefit Rome’s showcase of this international exhibition. The gala will be held at Oak Hill & Martha Berry Museum. Tickets are $100 and are available online at RomeGeorgia.org/Churchill. Purchase tickets by Monday, March 2, 2015.
The Art of Diplomacy: Winston Churchill and the Pursuit of Painting exhibition showcases six Churchill paintings and several artifacts. The exhibition is on view February 13 – March 15, 2015 at The Martha Berry Museum. Admission is $5 for students and $8 for adults. The museum is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
The exhibition is organized by the Millennium Gate Museum and the family of Winston Churchill’s Great Grandson, Duncan Sandys. The exhibition will travel to a select eight cities in Georgia and is made possible through local sponsorship support to include CitizensFirst, a division of Synovus.
The Rome exhibition and community events are presented by Berry College, Oak Hill & Martha Berry Museum, City of Rome and Rome Area Council for the Arts.
