FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: NAIA teams announced, final Rome game on Dec. 21
ROME, GA. — The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced Saturday that University of the Cumberlands of Ky. and Grand View University of Iowa won semi-final games and will face off at the national football championship in Rome later this month.
“There is always excitement in the air when competing teams come to Rome for NAIA, but especially when both teams are playing in their first-ever championship game,” said Ann Hortman, director of the Rome Sports Commission.
Both teams secured their respective places on the road to Rome by trumping previous NAIA Football National Championship contenders. The University of the Cumberlands outscored Carroll College, who most recently competed in 2011. Grand View University won against Morningside College, the number two team in last year’s final game.
The 58th Annual Russell Athletic-NAIA Football National Championship will kick-off on Saturday, Dec. 21 at 4:30 p.m. at Historic Barron Stadium in Downtown Rome.
The championship game is being hosted for its sixth and final time in Rome by the Rome Championship Host Committee.
