FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Christmas Candlelight Concert returns to The Forum
ROME, GA. — The Christmas Candlelight Concert will celebrate the spirit of Christmas once again in Rome’s Historic Downtown on Tuesday, Dec. 10.
The evening will begin at The Forum at 6:30 p.m. with gathering music by the Reeds of Rome Clarinet Choir and the Handbell Choirs of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
The fourth biennial concert officially commences at 7 p.m., and will feature a reading of the Christmas Story from the Gospel of Luke with responses from the orchestra and an en masse community choir in Christmas carols, solos and a reading of “One Solitary Life”.
In addition to the clarinet and handbell choirs, the NW GA WINDS, the Three Rivers Singers, the Rome First United Methodist Church Choir, and the Upper Grades Class from the Montessori School of Rome will present a program of traditional Christmas music.
Combined, there will be over 200 musicians led by conductors Sam Baltzer, Elizabeth Busby, Dr. John Reams, Joseph Salter and Len Willingham. Dr. Deborah Popham, Assistant Professor of Music at Shorter University, will sing a feature solo.
Representatives from The Salvation Army will be on-site with a red kettle ringing in the holidays and collecting donations.
Narration for the evening will be provided by Doug Walker and Nelle Reagan.
Virginia-native Doug Walker has worked in Rome since 1984, and is often seen around town covering stories as the business editor for the Rome News-Tribune. Walker came to the newspaper in 2009 following a nearly 25-year career with Rome Radio Partners, LLC, where he most recently served as the news director.
Nelle Reagan’s radio career began in 1960 when a salesman from Rockmart’s WPLK-AM overheard her voice and encouraged her to enter radio. In her first year she won The Associated Press Award for Outstanding Broadcasting for Local News. Since becoming a disc jockey, Reagan has worked at WROM-AM/FM, WLAQ-AM, and most recently WRGA-AM, where she hosts the community news program Talk of the Town, which she began in 1998. She also serves as the public affairs director for parent company Rome Radio Partners, LLC, where she has worked for over 15 years.
Spots are still available for those interested in singing in the community choir. A dress rehearsal at The Forum on Monday, Dec. 9 has been moved to 6:30 p.m. Please email Ann Hortman at Ann@RomeGeorgia.org to secure your place.
The Christmas Candlelight Concert is free and open to the public.
