FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Civil War symposium to highlight events surrounding Battle of Chickamauga
ROME, GA. — Local historian Mike Ragland will present a Civil War Symposium on Thursday, Sept. 26 to the general public.
His lecture will focus on the events leading to and surrounding the Battle of Chickamauga, one of the last major Confederate victories of the Civil War. The talk takes place just days after the 150th anniversary of the battle, which occurred Sept. 18-20, 1863.
The symposium will take place in the Coosa Room of the Rome-Floyd County Library at 6:30 p.m. The event is free to attend.
Ragland grew up in Lindale, Ga. and served in the U.S. Navy from 1963 to 1967. Now retired from the Rome Police Department following 40 years of service, Ragland is a full-time author and historian. He contributes regularly to the Rome News-Tribune and the Summerville News.
The Civil War Symposium series is sponsored by the Greater Rome Convention & Visitors Bureau and hosted by the Rome-Floyd County Library. The goal of the program is to educate the community on the area’s rich Civil War history during the sesquicentennial of the war.
