ROME, GA. — The Greater Rome Convention & Visitors Bureau (GRCVB) announced today that Chris Cannon, director of communications, will be leaving the organization on August 23.

Cannon is leaving Rome to pursue a career with the Georgia Department of Economic Development as the Tourism Product Manager for the Presidential Pathways region. Presidential Pathways is a 19-county region in West Central Georgia that encompasses Columbus, Lagrange, Americus, Cordele, Plains and many other communities.

“Chris has benefited our organization immensely by modernizing our marketing strategy with digital and social methods,” said Lisa Smith, GRCVB executive director. “He’s been a crucial part of our team for over four years and we will miss his influence and personality in the office.”

“Rome has become home for me, so this career advancement is very bittersweet,” said Cannon. “I thank everyone in the community for the sense of family you’ve given me while living here.”

Luke Chaffin, GRCVB special projects coordinator, will serve as the interim director of communications. Chaffin has been employed since August 2011.

“Luke is primed and ready to assume this role and tackle the many challenges of tourism marketing,” said Smith.
