The Georgia’s Rome Office of Tourism invites artists of all skill levels to participate in the inaugural Plein Air Showcase of Georgia’s Rome, set to take place on Saturday, October 12, 2024. This exciting new event celebrates the art of plein air painting and offers participants the unique opportunity to capture the vibrant essence of Rome’s downtown during the lively Fiddlin’ Fest.
The Plein Air Showcase is open to artists working in oil, acrylic, or watercolor. Artists will create their plein air paintings outdoors, directly inspired by the natural light, color, and movement of the bustling festival and its surrounding green spaces. The festival, known for its lively bluegrass music and festive atmosphere, provides a picturesque backdrop for artists to explore and depict.

- Date: Saturday, October 12, 2024
- Check-in Time: 8 a.m. at the Historic DeSoto Theatre
- Submission Deadline: All paintings must be submitted by 1 p.m. at the Historic DeSoto Theatre
Artists may use canvas, canvas board, or quality cover weight paper with a maximum size of 12″x16″. The artist entry fee is $25. Following the submission, artworks will be judged, with cash prizes and ribbons awarded as follows:
- First Place: $200
- Second Place: $150
- Third Place: $100
- Honorable Mention: $50
Additionally, artists have the option to offer their works for sale through a silent auction on the day of the event. The public will also have the chance to vote for their favorite painting. Voting will be $1 per vote, with all proceeds supporting the Historic DeSoto Theatre.
