Street Fashion Comes To Rome

Posted August 3, 2018 by Savannah White in Arts, Feature, People, Shopping, Things to Do

What do you get when you put a future art teacher in a room with a pile of maps? A one of a kind, handmade gorgeous paper dress of course!

This stunning design with a flared skirt and sweetheart neckline is made entirely of Rome and Georgia maps. We call it “Street” Fashion. Morgan Reynolds spent approximately 8 hours over two days, with the help of an assistant, fully designing, crafting, and putting the finishing touches on this special maptastic dress.

Morgan and Paper Dress

About Morgan-

Morgan is a graduate of Valdosta State and is currently pursuing a second degree in Art Education at West Georgia. She plans to become an art teacher when she graduates. Morgan has been an amazing part of our team for the past two years but will be departing this month to continue her education. This is her final project with us and what a way to go out with a bang! We are so excited for her new opportunity and for this amazing piece she has left behind for all of Rome to enjoy.

The process-

After Morgan completed her research and design she started with the creation of the skirt. She carefully hand cut over 40 shell like shapes and glued them together in an alternating color pattern to make the tiered skirt. Additional support was added over time to give it the full shape and flounce you see today.

The top was carefully molded and detailed with trendy side cuts and flowers decorating the sash.

Where to find it-

The dress and matching shoes will be in the Last Stop Gift Shop’s Downtown window on Broad Street at the Rome Area History Museum. Use #RomeStreetFashion when you post pictures at the window to have a chance of being featured on our Instagram and Facebook page. @LastStopGiftShop

Morgan Reynolds was one of the sweetest students in my 4th grade class at AES! Her creativity has matured as she has progressed through her young adulthood! This dress is just the beginning of a super successful career for Morgan. She is not only lovely, but will one day be a positive influence on other students who need a creative outlet! I’m so very excited and proud of Morgan. I can’t wait to see what God has planned for her future!!
