FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Johnson Elementary Wins “Teach Me Tennis” Tournament
ROME, GA. — The Rome-Floyd Tennis Center hosted the first “Teach Me Tennis” tournament where 110 juniors from five local schools competed to include Johnson Elementary, Glenwood Elementary, Pepperell Primary, Midway Elementary and Garden Lakes Elementary. Johnson and Garden Lakes made it to the finals; Johnson won tournament 14 – 11.
Juniors participating in the tournament enjoyed dance games and hula hoop contests following the awards ceremony. “The atmosphere for this tournament was so perfect for the kids,” said Johnson Elementary parent Rebecca Wood. “My kids had a great first tournament experience and can’t wait to get back on the courts to play again.”
“Teach Me Tennis” introduces tennis to students at local elementary schools and will return again in the fall. Organizers announced the addition of new teams to the fall program including YMCA and Boys and Girls Club teams.
Rome-Floyd Tennis Director, David Araiza said, “We couldn’t be happier with the attendance for the tournament. The enthusiasm from all the kids and parents was contagious today. We look forward to growing this program with the addition of more schools and groups in our area.”
The tournament was coordinated by “Teach Me Tennis” coaches and tennis professionals: Cristian Lopez, JP Selle and David Araiza. The tournament is one of many tennis activities planned for March Into Tennis month.
