Rome Is...Beautiful Mural
Celebrating 50 Years of Tourism in Rome, Georgia
In celebration of the Georgia’s Rome Office of Tourism’s 50th anniversary, the tourism office created this public mural that both enhances the beauty of downtown Rome and honors the people who make the city special.
“Rome Is… Beautiful — Because You’re Here”
This phrase speaks directly to residents, visitors, and future residents alike. It reinforces the idea that Rome’s beauty comes from its people and invites viewers to see themselves as part of the city’s story.
The Flowers
The flowers featured in the design pull directly from the flowers that are native to our area. Starting on the far left at the bee, the flowers illustrated are: Button Bush. Swamp Milkweed (just before bloom with a monarch butterfly) and Goldenrod. On the far right wall: Cardinal Flower, Black-eyed Susan, and Blue Flag Iris.
Rome Is…
This mural aligns with “Rome Is…”, a new community campaign that relaunched this year in partnership with the Rome Floyd Chamber. The campaign is designed to engage young adults and emerging professionals to consider Rome as their place to live, work, and grow! It celebrates Rome’s vibrant social scene, culture, sense of community, entertainment options, and opportunities for career advancement.
This mural ties into this campaign well because murals are more than public art—they add to the cultural vitality of a city by creating shared experiences, inspiring community participation, and inviting residents and visitors alike to engage with and celebrate the story of Rome.
