Oak Hill Cemetery, also known as the West Seventh Avenue Cemetery, was established in 1837 as Rome’s first official burial ground. It served as the final resting place for many of the city’s early prominent citizens until 1857, when Myrtle Hill Cemetery opened just south of downtown.
