After World War I, thirty-four magnolia seedlings were planted at Myrtle Hill Cemetery as a living tribute to the thirty-four Floyd County men who died in service. The seedlings were planted by Mary Turnley Reynolds and Jane Dean Miller, with trees donated by George Miller of Excelsior Nurseries in East Rome. A memorial plaque bearing the names of the fallen is located at the Carnegie Building at 607 Broad Street. Today, the magnolias still stand tall, overlooking Veterans Plaza as a lasting symbol of honor and remembrance.
