This trail is part of a project that aims to restore the Longleaf Pine ecosystem on Lavender Mountain, part of the Berry College campus and home to one of the last relict stands of this rare pine. Longleaf Pines are more resistant to pests like the Southern Pine Beetle and benefit from controlled burns, which also help prevent severe wildfires. The effort includes student and community involvement, promoting education on fire management and the ecological value of Longleaf Pines. The Longleaf Pine Trail is located along the road to the Old Mill—maps are available at the Campus Welcome Center car check-in.
