Historic Jackson Hill was the site of Fort Norton, an earthen fort that defended Rome during the Civil War. Redeveloped during the Great Depression by the Works Progress Administration, the area features the unique Labyrinth of Rome, shaded winding trails for peaceful hiking and mountain biking. History buffs love the outdoor exhibits like Civil War replicas and historic machinery. Be sure to visit the Labyrinth of Rome, located at the bottom of the hill. The Georgia’s Rome Welcome Center & Gift Shop is conveniently located adjacent to the trails and has an outdoor water bottle refill station for warm months.
