A Historic Gem for Live Performances
Inspired by New York’s Roxy Theatre, the DeSoto Theatre opened in 1929 as the first theater in the South built for sound films. With state-of-the-art technology and seating for over 1,000, it quickly became one of Georgia’s premier movie palaces.
Beautifully restored, the DeSoto is now a beloved venue for live theater and community events, continuing its legacy as a cultural centerpiece in downtown Rome.
