GE Trails at Garrard Park

Traves 11 miles of mountain biking trails spread across several scenic loops. A 1.2-mile walking trail, named in honor of local cycling advocates Bob and Peggy Moore, follows the perimeter.

The land is named for Dr. Garrard, who sold it to General Electric in 1952. His son, Bobby Garrard, cut the ribbon at the official opening, joined by descendants of the Garrard and Stroop families. Notably, Dr. Garrard once transformed one of the fields into Rome’s first airstrip. Aviation pioneer Robert E. Stroop, certified by Orville Wright in 1921, delivered a plane to the site, later marrying one of Dr. Garrard’s daughters.
