World Tai Chi Day
The Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation Department, in partnership with the Georgia’s Rome Office of Tourism, invites the public to celebrate global wellness and community connection at World Tai Chi Day on Saturday, April 25 at 10:00 a.m. at Rotary Plaza.
This free, family-friendly event offers participants of all ages and experience levels an opportunity to learn about the ancient practice of Tai Chi—often described as “meditation in motion”—and experience its many health benefits firsthand.
The program will feature a live demonstration led by Richard Dixon, a Board-Certified Teacher from the Tai Chi for Health Institute who currently teaches at the Charles Parker Center. Following the demonstration, attendees will be invited to join in and try Tai Chi themselves in a welcoming and supportive environment.
World Tai Chi Day is part of a global health and healing initiative celebrated annually in more than 80 countries on the last Saturday of April. At 10:00 a.m. local time across the world, communities gather to practice Tai Chi, Qigong, and other mind-body disciplines, creating a wave of wellness that begins in New Zealand and travels across continents, concluding in Hawaii.
The event highlights the growing body of research supporting Tai Chi and related practices for improving balance, reducing stress, enhancing mental clarity, and promoting overall well-being. It also serves as an opportunity to connect individuals with local resources and instructors who can help them continue their wellness journey.
“We are excited to bring this global celebration to Rome and provide an opportunity for our community to come together in a positive and healthy way,” said Lindsey Jones, Recreation Services Manager. “Whether you’re new to Tai Chi or have experience, everyone is welcome to participate.”
No registration is required. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and bring water. Rotary Plaza is located behind The Forum at 301 Tribune St, Rome, GA 30161. It is recommended to park at the 6th Avenue Parking Deck and take the boardwalk and paved trail beside the river to Rotary Plaza.
