The Floyd County Courthouse, built in 1892, showcases Romanesque Revival architecture with distinctive terra cotta grotesques on its facade. A small addition was added to the right of the front steps in the early 1920s. The site of the courthouse parking lot was previously home to the Davis Foundry.
On Monday, March 23, 2026, the courthouse was devastated by a fire, leaving only the exterior walls standing. The office of the Floyd County Tax Commissioner, tag office, and tax assessor’s office has been relocated across the street to 5 Government Plaza.
