Admiral Towers Plaza

Admiral Towers Memorial Plaza honors Rome native Admiral John Henry “Jack” Towers, known as the “Father of Naval Aviation.” Located next to Rome City Hall and Auditorium, the plaza features a life-size bronze statue celebrating his legacy.

Born in 1885 and raised in Downtown Rome, Towers graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1906 and became the third designated Naval Aviator in 1911. Over his 41-year career, he led the first transatlantic flight, founded the Naval Air Training Station in Pensacola, and became the first Georgian 4-star admiral. He is honored in multiple aviation halls of fame for his pioneering contributions to naval aviation.
