The Wings Over North Georgia Airshow is back this year and promises to bring an action packed weekend for the aerial enthusiast. With so much to see and do at the show, we’re offering some helpful hints to help you navigate your first experience.
So you’ve gotten tickets already, but don’t know where to park? Fret not, there are plenty of options available. Parking with shuttle services is available at the Rome Braves Stadium, Armuchee High School, Northside Church (Saturday only) and North Floyd Park Community Center, but if you want some parking closer to the airport, a limited amount of parking is available at the South Airport for $25 with shuttle service. Remember to stop at the vendor booths and take time to tour the various stationary aircraft like the massive C-5 Galaxy and C-17 Globemaster!
After the opening ceremony and introduction to the performers, the first round of action kicks off with performers such as Mike Goulian, one of the most decorated, respected, and innovative aerobatic pilots performing today, and Scott Farnsworth, with the Dash Aerosports Racing Team. We’ll also be bringing the action with Tora! Tora! Tora! and the USAF Heritage Flight Team. Other performers include Buck Roetman with Wild Horse Aviation, Patty Wagstaff Airshows, Joe Masessa Mohawk Airshows, Scott Yoak P-51D Mustang Demo, Jim Tobul F4U Corsair Demo, and the Smoke-n-Thunder Jet Car and Jet Truck shows.
Following the individual performers, prepare yourself for the Tiger Flight and AeroShell Demo Teams and of course we can’t forget about the Sky Soldiers Cobra Demo Team and NY ANG C-17 Globemaster III Demo Team.
Next comes the USSOCOM Para-Commandos, who are all active duty military or Department of Defense civilians assigned to the Special Operations Command. Most are combat veterans and have a Special Operations background. Many served with the US Army Special Forces, commonly known as the elite Green Berets. Others served with US Army Rangers, the world’s premier light infantry fighting force. The US Air Force is well represented with specialized combat controllers, pararescuemen and combat air crewmen. The US Navy is represented with US Navy SEALs and Special Warfare Combat Crewmen, and the US Marine Corps is represented by Special Operations Marines. Along with this demonstration, there will also be a Veterans Parade of Honor complete with patriotic flyovers.
Get ready for the main event as the F-22A Raptor and A-10 Thunderbolt take to the skies with their precision aerial maneuvers to exhibit the capabilities of modern, high-performance aircraft and the high degree of professional skill required to operate those aircraft.
