Gear Up for the 38th Annual John Wisdom Wagon Train

Saddle up for the 38th annual John Wisdom Wagon Train ride! Revisit the heroic path of John Wisdom, known as “Georgia’s Paul Revere” who warned Rome of impending attack by Union forces in May of 1863. The 23-mile round trip begins and ends in Rome, Georgia where participants will camp at the fairgrounds and enjoy an evening of entertainment.

The ride begins Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. and will cover a 23-mile path with two breaks and a stop for lunch. The ride will begin and end at the Coosa Valley Fairgrounds , located at 1400 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Rome, Ga. 30161. In order to participate, proof of completing the Coggins Test must be provided to representatives of the Georgia Department of Agriculture at the entry gate.

There will also be primitive camping starting on Friday, Oct. 20 at noon. Camp sites will need to be cleared by Sunday, Oct. 22 by 11 a.m.

Wagon train admission will be $10 for each adult P1180334participating, and $5 for children ages 12 and under. Participants will receive a collector button, which is to be worn at all times during the event as proof of paid admission. Participants must sign waivers of liability. Admission includes camping. Participants will need to purchase tickets at the gate; the day of the event.

 

There will also be a cowboy dance that is open to the public. Tickets to the dance are $5 each and are not included in admission. They are available at the gate. The band will perform in the Mather Payne Special Events Building at the fairgrounds from 7:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Feel free to BYOB! 

Performing this year, are the Crimson Sweet Renegades. They have been performing Classic Rock, Country, Southern Rock, Blues, Pop,  Rhythm and Blues, and popular music for many years. Performing in Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, and Mississippi.

Commemorative t-shirts will be available for purchase at the fairgrounds.
