Posted August 9, 2017 by Kristi Kent in Downtown, Events, News

The Georgia’s Rome Office of Tourism would like the community to be aware of several events in town this weekend and during the month of August that will increase both pedestrian and vehicle traffic in and around Downtown Rome.

USTA Southern Junior Team Tennis Championships will be held this Friday through Sunday, August 11-13 at both the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College and the Downtown Tennis Courts. 1,000 people are expected in town for this tournament including the 700 junior tennis athletes expected to play.

The Jehovah Witness Conference launches this weekend at the Forum River Center and will run for three consecutive weekends: August 10-13, August 24-27 and August 31-September 3. 2,500 people are expected to attend the conference each weekend for a monthly total of 7,500 conference attendees.

The Downtown Development Parking Office would like to remind locals to Park Smart. Off-Street parking is available at several downtown locations.  The 3rd Avenue parking deck adjacent to The Forum is $1 an hour after the first hour of free parking, the 6th Avenue parking deck located two blocks from The Forum is $2 per event.  The W. 4th Ave. parking deck located at the corner of E. 1st St. is available nights and weekends for free.

The parking lots located across the river from The Forum River Center off of West 3rd Street are free public lots.  On-street parking along Broad Street and surrounding streets is limited to 2 hours per day and is also free.  Parking around the downtown tennis courts between the tennis center and Barron Stadium will be reserved for the junior team tennis tournament.

The Downtown Welcome Center, located at 300 W. 1st St. adjacent to the Town Green will be open to provide information on local and regional attractions. Hours of operation are Tuesday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
