While you can explore and learn about Rome all on your own, there are a few things you can only experience on a tour. Here are 7 free or affordable tours that are a must:

 

1.) Downtown Rome Guided Walking Tours

Downtown Rome’s Guided Tours offer unique insights into Rome’s storied past. Each monthly downtown tour is different where tour guides highlight new insights into Rome’s historic downtown to history and beauty. Get tickets.

 

2.) Sulzbacher Roman Holiday Riverboat Tours

Rome - Roman Holiday

The river history themed tour highlights Rome’s river, Native American and civil war history. Public tours are offered the first Sunday of each spring and summer months. The boat is also available to book for private group tours. Tickets here.

 

3.) City Clocktower Tours

May 7 &  8 is the public’s last opportunity to tour the City Clocktower before is temporarily closes for renovations. The clocktower will be open for extended hours on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.and Sunday 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

 

4.) Myrtle Hill Self-Guided Tree Tour

Discover over 35 different species of trees in Rome’s Historic Myrtle Hill Cemetery on the self-guided tree tour. Many of the trees are rare and not native to the Northwest Georgia Area. Download the map here.

 

5.) Georgia’s Rome Mobile App Tour Challenges

Explore Rome through a series of fun challenges. Each challenge contains clues to questions you’ll answer as you are guided through the streets of Downtown Rome. Fun dares and photo opps help you discover what only the locals know.  We recommend starting with the “Explore Downtown Rome” challenge in the Downtown Rome category. It takes about 2 hours to complete and covers about 1.3 miles. Bring a friend with you; you’ll learn a lot of Rome’s history and discover hidden gems along the way! 6.) Myrtle Hill Cemetery Mobile App Tour

This free app tour of Myrtle Hill allows you to discover Rome’s rich heritage through text, audio, video as you are guided by GPS through the cemetery. Download here.

 

7.) Cave Spring Ghost Tours
